They say that part of what you carve are those things that traverse your mind at times in your life and this figure seems to capture the frustation of the carver at the point of creation.The look on the face and the weapon in the hand tells it all.The design on this tekoteko is pakati[notched pattern] surrounded by haehae lines. There several notched patterns and this particular one is called niho kuri or dog teeth .On the thighs and buttocks are the tattoo patterns called puhoro [thigh] and rape [buttocks].Note the left hand, it is faced backward in an attempt to conceal the weapon that it holds. This is an original work of art. |
