The Wheku is defined by it's elongated eyes depicting a squint or a frown which would be created more by splashing water in one's face.

The Wheku is defined by it's elongated eyes depicting a squint or a frown which would be created more by splashing water in one's face. The Wheku was commonly used in carvings by some tribal areas and also placed at the apex of a meeting house. This particular piece has a large forehead that is decorated in a spiral fashion which is meant to capture the complexities of the mind. The two small manaia heads that are situated in the temple region with the eyes entering the mouth merely suggests that someone has foresight. The ears are connected to the hinge of the jaw and it is intended to show that before people speak or make comment about any subject matter, the art of listening should be practised. This Wheku is an original work of art.
