Panguru is the mountain, Te Rarawa is the tribe, Whakarapa is the river, Hokianga is the sea. This whakatauki[saying ]names all the most important things that makes up the area where Alex lives. The Hokianga Harbour lies on the west coast of the northern regions of N.Z.It is in the vicinity of this harbour that the largest tree in this country dwells amongst a huge stand of the giant kauri trees. Panguru is an isolated settlement and it's claim to fame is that the first catholic church was established here by a French bishop named Pompallier and it is from here that the foundations of the Catholic church in this country were established. Alex's dream is to one day be classed as a master carver. |
